The Boss: Drink Up For More Health Gains!

Who, or what, is the boss? It’s an herbal infusion, aka ‘tea’, and it’s quite a force to be reckoned with.

It’s name is Rooibos (Roy-Boss), an African herb that has many healing and healthy properties. It’s caffeine free, unlike true teas (such as black tea, green tea, white tea, etc.), it’s safe for all ages, and it tastes great hot or iced. It has been used to help prevent and reduce allergic reactions, help improve circulation, help reduce blood pressure, and even to help soothe infant colic. It has also shown to be beneficial for reducing symptoms of gallstones.

Rooibos helps to increase beneficial nitric oxide, which aids the body in lowering blood pressure and helps to reduce the effects of ADHD. Individuals diagnosed with ADHD have a high risk for later developing high blood pressure also. Rooibos tea can be a great weapon to use for minimizing this risk.

Recently, it has been found that Rooibos can reduce the damage caused by the herbicide ATRAZINE. Considering the numerous negative effects of this drug that is used on our food supply, this is important information, and reason enough to drink it regularly. Atrazine is all bad news, having caused frogs to change sexual behavior, and even actually change sex. When exposed to Atrazine, male frogs began to mate with other male frogs, began to produce eggs and viable offspring from those eggs. The overall damaging effects on humans aren’t fully known, however it has been acknowledged to be toxic. Additional benefits of Rooibos include:

-Kills cancer cells

-Increases iron absorption

-Reduces the effects of stress

-Helps against many digestive issues

-Helps prevent formation of new fat cells

-Helps to prevent and diminish blood clots

-Helps minimize/eliminate sinus headaches

-Can help to prevent and treat varicose veins

-Good source of magnesium, zinc, iron, & manganese

Rooibos is available in red leaf and green leaf. The herb’s leaves are naturally green, but if you want green rooibos, you have to specify that when purchasing, as most rooibos sold is red leaf. Rooibos leaves become red through an oxidation process, for enhanced flavor. Some of the beneficial flavanoids/phenols are reduced when the herb is oxidized, but some of the benefits are enhanced with oxidation, so each type has immense benefits. Oxidation does give rooibos a deeper, richer flavor, but both green and red taste great with the addition of a dark maple syrup! As a great addition to your health regimen, drink it several days a week!
